Experimental Economics, by Douglas D. Davis, Charles A. Holt

A small but increasing number of economists have begun to use laboratory experiments to evaluate economic propositions under carefully controlled conditions. Experimental Economics is the first comprehensive treatment of this rapidly growing area of research. While the book acknowledges that laboratory experiments are no panacea, it argues cogently for their effectiveness in selected situations. Covering methodological and procedural issues as well as theory, Experimental Economics is not only a textbook but also a useful introduction to laboratory methods for professional economists.

Although the authors present some new material, their emphasis is on organizing and evaluating existing results. The book can be used as an anchoring device for a course at either the graduate or advanced undergraduate level. Applications include financial market experiments, oligopoly price competition, auctions, bargaining, provision of public goods, experimental games, and decision making under uncertainty. The book also contains instructions for a variety of laboratory experiments.

"Experimental Economics" was the first serious textbook on the subject, for many reasons. First of all, this subset of economics is not considered theory, since it's theories being tested and scrutinized, which constitutes the essence of the sub-field. On top of that, experimental economics is relatively unpopular, despite its breakthrough in the last two decades, and is taught in very few select doctoral programs in the United States, ignored pretty much everywhere else. The reason for this is that although infinitely useful for case-by-case testing of individual choice theory, or to some little extent, asymmetric information effects in broadly understood game theory and mechanism design, the experimental methods described in this book, and experimentation in general, has a severly limited use for theory, be it economics, or social psychology. From the logical point of view the field should not be expanded in other directions, simply because experimental testing due to their inductive nature, may not serve as a basis for constructing new theories, or expanding existing ones. As such, the field is sterile, and not fertile, as might seem judging from the prolific output of the scholars specializing in experimental economics. Therefore, the field is of limited use for analysis of phenomena where no data is being collected, nor it ever has, due to the immanent nature of these phenomena. In this respect, experimental economics is virtually the only tool to test the logically valid economic and psychological theories conceived outside the experimental field, as it should be. Davis and Holt's textbook is quite dry, and I'd rather recommend "The Handbook of Experimental Economics", or a good selection of papers, but still, since there is no alternative, and since the authors do a reasonably good job of collecting and analyzing the vast material in a concise form, the book should finds its way to the shelf of all serious students and researchers of abstract individual choice, and possibly, mechanism design.

Pleasures abound in this sexy third novel from Emma Pérez.
By Catriona Esquibel
Great fun! Professor Electra Campos is smart, sexy, with a weakness for the ladies. And her most dreadful dean has dropped dead (with a little help). Electra is an obvious suspect, and she gets involved with proving her innocence (with a little "Prove it on me Blues.") This novel is packed (pun intended) with action (pun intended). It's an academic murder mystery whose appeal will extend far beyond academics. Electra and her side-kick Adrián have me laughing and shaking my head (and wanting to shake them!). From "Greek tragedy was in my blood" to "I pulled her thong from my coat pocket," pleasures abound in this sexy third novel from Emma Pérez.

A very enjoyable debut novel!
By RLynne
Electra's Complex is "A Bella After Dark Erotic, Romantic Mystery. Electra Campos is an English professor at Capital College in New York City. Getting to campus very early, to turn in paperwork to the dean, she discovers his body in a pool of his blood. What follows is a very funny mystery with some great, off beat characters. There is also plenty of sex, and a fun flirtation between Electra and NYPD Detective Carolina Quinn.
Edited by award winning Kathering V. Forrest, Electra's Complex is a very good debut novel.

Excellent erotic murder mystery that will keep you on your toes
By Tara from The Lesbian Review
I had no idea what I was getting into with this book, but it was a wild ride. I've shelved it as erotic, and it is, but there is absolutely no romance to this book. It's a murder mystery where one of the potential suspects is also investigating the murder to the best of her ability. There's a lot of sex with multiple partners, but all of it ratchets up the tension.

I'm typically not a mystery person at all, but I'm so glad I read this. If you want something different, be sure to check it out.

Half-Track: A History of American Semi-Tracked Vehicles, by R.P. Hunnicutt

Featuring over a thousand photos from the National Archives, diagrams, and detailed specifications, Hunnicutt's Half-Track remains the definitive development history of half-track vehicles for the military historian, professional soldier, and tank restorer.

In this ambitious work, Hunnicutt details the developmental history of half-tracks, examining its modifications and effectiveness. Products of a pre-war development program, half-track vehicles served in all theaters of operation from the first to the final days of WWII, and many models remained active long after the Korean War. The armored half-track was one of few vehicles available to equip the new divisions being formed just prior to WWII.

Part I traces the early development beginning with the slow half-track of WWI to the faster vehicles developed after the evaluation of the French Citroen-Kegresse P17 in 1931. These vehicles were unarmored half-track cars and trucks intended for use as prime movers and reconnaissance vehicles.

In 1938, the half-track suspension was installed on the M2A1 scout car, and the converted vehicle became the half-track personnel carrier T7. This was the first armored half-track, but tests showed that it was underpowered. Based upon the experience with the T7, a new vehicle was designed in 1939 and designated as the half-track scout car T14. Using the half-track suspension from the T7 and a more powerful engine, it became the prototype for all of the half-tracks produced during WWII.

In Part II, the development and production of half-tracks during WWII is described showing the many roles for which it was adapted. In addition to the original armored scout car, the basic chassis was adapted as a personnel carrier, mortar carrier, tank destroyer, self-propelled artillery, and other specialized applications. Some of these vehicles were temporary expedients, but others were so successful that they remained in use until long after WWII.

Part III briefly describes some half-track operations during WWII and Korea. However, it is not intended to be an operational history, but to illustrate the effectiveness of the half-track in active service. The characteristics of the various half-track vehicles and the weapons with which some of them were armed are tabulated in the data sheets in Part IV.

Richard Pearce Hunnicutt (1926-2011) enlisted in the 7th Infantry Division in 1944 and in 1945 was promoted to sergeant and awarded the Silver Star for his heroic actions. After WWII, Hunnicutt earned a Masters in engineering from Stanford University under the GI Bill. In addition to being one of the most respected metallurgists in California, Hunnicutt wrote the definitive 10-volume history of the development and employment of American armored vehicles. As a tank historian and leading expert in the field, Hunnicutt was one of the founders of the US Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and was a close friend and frequent contributor to the Patton Museum at Fort Knox, KY.

Halftrack, half there
By matt8386
This is the first of seven Hunnicutt books that I have purchased that I was not completely satisfied with. The usual detail, excellent photos and history of the development of the subject that we have come to expect from Hunnicutt are there, but there are two things that missed the mark:
In all of his other works, other vehicles have been included to trace the development, show parallel trends, experimental prototypes. There is virtually none of that here.
This is also a relatively short work for Hunnicutt. Coupled with its very narrow scope, I was left wanting to read more.
Still, if you are a half track nut, this would be THE book to own on the subject.

The Halftrack Bible
By M. Koloc
Outstanding history and description of the development of the WWII US Half-Track Vehicle. Hunnicut's research, descriptions, photos, drawings and history is the benchmark for all books of this type. Collectors and WWII fans will appreciate the attention to detail and the efforts that the author put into his work. As a half-Track collector and military historian, I would strongly recommend this fine work.

The Open Book is a Question Mark
By Alec Gilmore
The change in biblical studies, with an increasing tendency to read the Bible as literature and to relate it to other literature, offers a field day to those who are skilled in both and there is plenty of evidence that they are able to exploit it. Anything in that department bearing the name of David Jasper is likely to be worth reading and this book is no exception. Fundamentally it is a resource book for teachers and students by two people with experience of both, but it also has much to offer to offer the general reader, especially those who find difficulty moving from the world of modernism (where life is rational and organised) to the world of post-modernism (which seems to be chaotic and marred by uncertainty). In a world where individual interpretations replace community interpretations and trust often gives way to suspicion, these editors explore religious literature afresh and at the same time uncover new biblical insights, not least in those biblical passages often neglected.
If the potential readership is broad so too is the literature. Eight chapters include extracts on origins (beginning with Genesis and the prologue to John and going on to the Quiché Indians and a creation story from the Iroquois), on sacred texts, biblical motifs and images, and on the great themes of literature and religion.
Writers include Ovid, Augustine, Wordsworth, Shakespeare, Luther, Bunyan, Kierkegaard, Teresa of Avila, Mark Twain, D H Lawrence, Goethe, Milton, Merton, Donne, Blake, Kafka, Eliot, Beckett, Derrida, and Ricoeur, to mention only a few of the more familiar. With such a wealth it is difficult to be selective, but Michèle Roberts, The Wild Girl, described as `a kind of fifth gospel written by Mary Magdalene', is a good example of breaking into new territory, the bringing together of Job and Kafka a creative way of tackling a theodicy, Elie Wiesel's Night perhaps the most moving, and Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood the seeds of a sermon on Matthew 7:3.
Once you begin to think this way it is difficult ever again to be content with interpreting biblical literature in isolation from other literature, and indeed from all the other arts and the whole world of culture. It certainly raises awkward and embarrassing questions but that may be a more effective way of uncovering religious truth than the traditional watering places of church, liturgy and sermon. Readers should be prepared to be stretched, occasionally alarmed and sometimes threatened, but much of the struggle is avoided only at our peril.

Very Brief Extracts
By Michael C. Jordan
You should be aware that this "reader" offers extracts from 83 works in only 191 pages (the Amazon description as of 7/24/00 giving the page count as 400 is wrong); most works are represented through passages that are only a page or so in length. If you are expecting an anthology, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a text that compiles brief passages relevant to the theme of literature and religion from a wide range of sources, this book will serve your needs.

Scholarly yet accessible!
By Mary Ann Fischer
The format of this book is remarkable. Only one problem: I want to read everything in this anthology of primary source readings but life is much too short and this offers a full reading plate!!
Also, Breaking The Fall, Robert Detweiler's book on religious readings of contemporary fiction (1989) is one of my favorites and more than worthy of republication.

Guilt and Corruption
By olingerstories
O'Hara's BUtterfield 8 is not as theological rich as reading
Graham Greene, but its close and the pages turn just as quickly.
His style is superb and the ploting is first-rate, which only
increases the depth of his description of the depraved of NYC during
the start of the Great Depression. The hidden line running through
it is what is disposable wealth and what is not, and how that
impacts moral action. The only refreshing aspect of the book
is that there is not one redeeming character in it.

The main difficulty that I had was one that I brought with me--I was picturing Elizabeth Taylor throughout as Gloria along with thinking how horribly Lawrence Harvey was miscastas Liggett in the 1959 movie.

Engrossing and thoughtful
By Chris
There are a number of "classics" sitting on my shelves to be read. This summer I picked up BUtterfield 8 and dove right in. I had almost no idea what to expect. I'd never seen the movie and hadn't really ever heard anything about the story. Reading the back cover gave a slight insight, but still left me wondering what to expect.

The book started out a little slow, but still very vivid. O'Hara writes with great description and passion and was able to make the scenes very alive and full. However, for the first few chapters, the book felt rather disjointed to me and I felt a little disoriented and confused. There were a ton of characters dropped in and I wasn't yet sure who was important and who was peripheral.

Looking back, I think the disorientation could be a deliberate stylistic choice. Our central characters are all caught up in a whirlwind of life's adventures filled with big hopes and dreams, but still just whipped around dizzyingly by real life interactions.

Pushing through the first few chapters, I found myself getting really attached to the characters. This is really a character driven novel and the characters are deep and engaging. It was a while before I even knew the name of the girl I was following around for the first few pages and I wasn't sure yet if I was supposed to be sympathetic to or disgusted by her situation, but I still felt compelled by her and wanted to know more. As Gloria Wandrous grew more and more alive and as I learned more of her back story and current situation, she began to feel truly real and I found myself sympathizing for her.

Many of the themes of the book dealt with Gloria's sexuality both in the present world and with the encounters of her youth. O'Hara isn't explicit/graphic with his sexual content, but I can see where even the allusions he presents could be controversial both then and now. Sexuality is often a taboo subject anyway. Add to that the molestation/rape of a young girl and the subject becomes all the more disputable.

O'Hara doesn't wholly portray Gloria as a victim, which would be a natural response. He does explore her psychology and reactions, but he also gives her an inner strength and drive. I really enjoyed the description of her conflicted moral judgments. She has a real desire to love and be loved, but she has a low sense of self worth because of her past that she feels she has to live up to.

In addition to the depth in Gloria's character, the book also expounds on the sexuality and behaviors of all the other characters.

Weston Ligget, the male love interest for Gloria, is a character with a lot of depth though it's harder to feel sympathetic towards him. I feel almost sorry for him in that he does seem like he genuinely wants to care for Gloria, but at the same time, I read his love as more of an infatuation based on the thrill of the chase and the excitement of the affair. He just sends off the creepy vibe through his pedophiliac/incestual behavior not to mention his infidelity and reckless abandon.

I really liked Eddie as Gloria's best friend. Part of me hoped that they would somehow get a romance going, but I knew early on that any chance of love between them was totally ill-fated.

I've spoken mostly about the characters and this really is a character driven novel. The characters are the life of the book. The plot itself felt a little thin. It was compelling only in the fact that I was attached to Gloria. The environment of New York and the speakeasies was meticulously created and felt very real and compelling. The dialog was fresh and real.

The themes and content, while somewhat controversial and dated to the ~20s/30s, were still strikingly relevant in our modern society. The 21st century club scene is obviously a little different than that of the speakeasies. The stresses and concerns of modern day 20-somethings and white-collar-30+s have become more technologically advanced, but the general worries are still very similar.

People want to be loved. They want to be accepted. They want to figure out who they are and how they fit into the world. They want to overcome the problems of their past and be able to take control of their future.

This novel has a lot of great themes to think on and wonderful characters to help open up the realities hiding under the pasted on smiles of society. I would have liked to have seen some better resolution or morale at the end of the story, but it still left something to think about. Probably my biggest complaint was the "200 pound gorilla in the room" that's alluded to on the back cover by telling us that O'Hara was inspired to write this book when he read a news article about an unknown girl found dead in the East River. With that in mind, I knew what was coming and new the book couldn't end well.

Still, I hoped for a little more enlightenment or for something more to come from the impending death. In that regard, the book left me somewhat disappointed...a bit of metafiction, placing me inside Gloria's own disappointment with the world.

Overall, it was a book worth reading. I enjoyed the reality of it, the depth of the characters and the interesting themes. The pacing was a bit slow and disjointed, especially early on, and the plot itself felt a bit contrived at moments. Still, I am glad I read it and will likely seek out more O'Hara to put on my shelf.

Powerful and Memorable...a 4.6 on a scale of 1 to 5
By crazyforgems
I have enjoyed O'Hara in the past and I had always wanted to read this book. When I saw that Fran Leibowitz wrote the introduction, I thought "it's time."
O'Hara sets the book in the early 1930's in New York City. He focuses his sharp powers of observation on the "speakeasy" class of New York: those individuals with still enough wealth to spend time in illegal bars drinking their worries away. At first, you think "ah, these are the beautiful people." Of course, soon you realize that these individuals are anything but beautiful.
The heroine, or anti-heroine, Gloria, is a beautiful, young woman of loose morals and some inherited wealth. She is smart-we're told she could have gone to Smith-and underneath everything, kind. But sexual abuse early on triggered a rampant promiscuity.
O'Hara specializes in delineating the subtle class differences-the Catholics who went to Yale as opposed to the Wasps-that existed at this time. He structures class systems in his novels as rigidly as any Brahmin.
I would recommend this book for individuals who enjoy contemporary fiction, particularly books set in New York that depict wealthy, beautiful people. (If you like Fitzgerald, you'll like this book.) Both men and women can enjoy this book-as Fran Leibowitz says in her introduction, "it's a young man's book" in many ways.
I would not recommend this book for individuals who dislike "dated" fiction (though this book is surprising fresh in many ways) or books that verge on melodrama.
One note about the Leibowitz's introduction: I found it excellent. She has some acute observations-sex is an animal desire, the perception of it human and changing according to mores in vogue-that have stayed with me.

Teeny Panties Slumber Party (Forbidden Cherry Erotica XXXX Taboo), by Trixxi Blue

Plenty of champagne, lots of snacks, a scary movie and a tiny amount of skimpy underwear.
What more did four naïve young girls need for a wild slumber party?
But Polly’s best friend Bobbi had other ideas. She knew just how to spice the evening up.
The man-of-the-house was downstairs with his brother, and if she had her way it was soon going to be much more than champagne corks that we’re popping in the bedroom.

***WARNING*** this short story contains vivid descriptions of four young girls and their coming of age as they take part in a wild, champagne fuelled orgy of filthy sex, which includes explicit scenes of mutual masturbation, oral sex, anal sex, lesbianism and much much more.
This story is strictly only for persons of age 18+ and should only be read if you are comfortable with the subject matter and think you can handle what happens to these innocent young girls and the hands of two fit, experienced men.

Note – all characters in this story are over the age of 18, none of them are BLOOD related and everything that takes place is consensual and utterly depraved.

SAMPLE EXCERPT - I’m sorry, but due to the extreme nature of the filthy acts contained within, the publisher will not allow me to post a sample excerpt here, but, where available, you can click on “look inside” and get an uncensored preview of exactly what these horny girls get up to.

This book presents the Englishman's point of view about their time spent in India, chronicling the life and times of the British officers of the Indian civil service. It brings out the wonderful traits of the English character, so woefully missing today, that enabled them to build and run an empire the likes of which the world has not seen.

This book immediately brings to the reader's mind the vivid contrast between the well-governed districts and provinces of the British era and the ill-governed ones of the India of today; the scrupulously honest British civil service and the corrupt Indian establishment. The book highlights some of the wonderful gifts of the British empire to India - a full-fledged political unity, a network of railheads from which no village was more than 50 kms away (at the beginning of the 20th century, India had more than 30,000 km of railway track; in contrast China had less than 3000), separation of judicial and executive functions of the state, settlement of land revenue and keeping of meticulous land records (in Moghul and Maratha territories, the land revenue was at least 1/3 rd and 1/4th of the produce; it was 1/8th in British India), crackdown on Thugee and efforts to reform customs like sati, human sacrifice and child marriage.

However, the book is less than fair to the Indian movement for independence. The author has used unjustifiably strong language to describe the actions of Nanaji Peshwa, Tilak and even Shivaji. For Indians, this is a good book to get a perspective of events from the other side - something that has been smudged by years of silly Congress propaganda. For example, the timing and motive of that most thoughtless and inane movement - the Quit India movement of 1942.

Indians have been conditioned to think of the British period as a period of darkness, but the fact is that there was order and probity that was absent in the Mughal, Maratha and Sikh territories and is, indeed, missing in India today. It may perhaps be preferable to live in anarchy, as Mr.Gandhi implored the British to leave India to, but it is painful nonetheless.

Any period of foreign rule evokes strong feelings, but to a nation firmly steeped in mediaeval times, British rule was a bitter way of bringing the fruits of the European renaissance and industrial revolution. Certainly, British imperialism was benign as compared to Portuguese, Japanese, German, Italian or Russian imperialism. The tragedy is that they stayed longer than necessary, spoiled a lot many good things about India and handed over the reins to a class of Indians that did not understand India and tried to ape the western nations' overtly mental and materialistic way to progress.

What I Learned Losing a Million Dollars (Columbia Business School Publishing), by Jim Paul, Brendan Moynihan

Jim Paul's meteoric rise took him from a small town in Northern Kentucky to governor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, yet he lost it all―his fortune, his reputation, and his job―in one fatal attack of excessive economic hubris. In this honest, frank analysis, Paul and Brendan Moynihan revisit the events that led to Paul's disastrous decision and examine the psychological factors behind bad financial practices in several economic sectors.

This book―winner of a 2014 Axiom Business Book award gold medal―begins with the unbroken string of successes that helped Paul achieve a jet-setting lifestyle and land a key spot with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. It then describes the circumstances leading up to Paul's $1.6 million loss and the essential lessons he learned from it―primarily that, although there are as many ways to make money in the markets as there are people participating in them, all losses come from the same few sources.

Investors lose money in the markets either because of errors in their analysis or because of psychological barriers preventing the application of analysis. While all analytical methods have some validity and make allowances for instances in which they do not work, psychological factors can keep an investor in a losing position, causing him to abandon one method for another in order to rationalize the decisions already made. Paul and Moynihan's cautionary tale includes strategies for avoiding loss tied to a simple framework for understanding, accepting, and dodging the dangers of investing, trading, and speculating.

Review

Worthwhile reading for those who don't believe in the holy grail in the markets; a must-read for those who do.

(Jack Schwager, author of Hedge Fund Market Wizards)

A novel approach aimed at pushing you inside your head and outside the losing habits most folks adopt right after multiple successes. A must-have for traders blessed with a string of hot trades.

(Ken Fisher, Fisher Investments FORBES)

At Ned Davis Research, we like to say that we are in the business of making mistakes and that the only difference between winners and losers is that winners make small mistakes and losers, big mistakes. This book does an excellent job in explaining in simple English the potential psychological 'flaws' that cause investors to make big mistakes.

(Ned Davis, Ned Davis Research, Inc.)

One of the rare noncharlatanic books in finance.

(Nassim Nicholas Taleb, from Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder)

Plenty of books recount past successes or focus on how to make money in the market, but what about keeping the money you already have? This may seem like a high-class problem, but it is a very real challenge for investors with substantial capital.

(John Mihaljevic Beyond Proxy)

[An] enlightening read.

(Brenda Jubin Investing.com)

The book points out very early that many successful investors have opposing styles and theories on how to make money, and that they can not all be right at the same time. The most important point to take from the book is how to avoid losing money...

(Steve Osbiston Financial Times Advisor)

Review

Seldom do we hear the message that the management of risk, not just the taking of risk, is at the heart of success in habitual entrepreneurs. Just as the professional athlete learns to play his or her game mentally before the actual contest, so the successful entrepreneur reduces the risk of the new challenge by planning before implementing.

(Edward M. Moldt, Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, Bloomington)

A rare book indeed.
By rimshaker
I'm a self taught investor/trader (arent we all) so I've collected my share of books. But this one by Jim Paul/Brendan Moynihan is the most unique book I have ever read so far. It's the only book which correctly points out that trading and investing are personal journeys; about finding out who are you, and then how to manage what you find out. Until you do, one can never be consistently successful at this game. This is largely why the public can never make a career out of trading. It never dawns on them that it's all about soul searching and then applying your strengths while controlling your weaknesses. Everyone is different; which is why there are infinite ways to make a profit. There are no "secrets" to trading. It never dawns on them that investing seminars are utterly useless. It never dawns on them that you don't have to watch CNBC either.

The book is basically two sections. Jim describes his life stories in the first part, then Brendan writes about the psychology of it all in the second part. Copies of this book are relatively pricey given the rarity. Wait until several sellers show up to take advantage of price competition. Good luck trying to find it in public libraries. This book is worth every dollar I spent to read it. It's one of those that you'd want to reread once a year so you never forget the correct way to approach the markets. The earlier in your career you get a chance to read this book, the better off you'll be.

One of the best books on trading out there ...
By Michael E. Strupp
This book should be required reading for anyone who thinks they "wanna trade like the pros" and become a full-time financial markets trader. This book makes it clear that most people don't lose because of what the market does but because of how they respond to the markets ... and how they handle losing trades.
Jim Paul's realization that there are countless ways to make money in financial markets and only a few ways to lose it is very insightful and though provoking. Read it again and again.

Luck beats smarts but luck runs out
By Mercenary Trader
An alternative title to this book could be, "What I learned losing my ego."

After describing a meteoric rise to the top of the Chicago food chain, Jim Paul essentially boils down the secret of his success to being a cocky punk with an exceptional lucky streak that had to run out.

I think he gives himself less credit than he deserves in ascribing all his early success to luck--it takes confidence and selling ability to take advantage of the "lucky breaks" he got--but that is beside the point. His main message is that success fed his ego until he felt that winning was his birthright. He thought he could do no wrong, which led to inevitable downfall.

One small quibble. The ironic thing about Paul's stories of loss are that he was 99% there most of the time. If he hadn't have let the bean oil get back to zero, he could have walked away with at least a couple hundred grand in profits... if he hadn't let the stock options purchased for an eighth (or whatever it was) go to zero after seeing them hit $4, he could have had six figures in profit there again, etcetera.... I got the impression that even the big downfalls in this book were actually success stories with "oops" endings tacked on.

In this light, I didn't really understand the blurbs on the back talking about how Jim Paul shows you the perils of the trading game. What perils? The perils of not taking a huge, monster profit when it is sitting in front of your face?

This is why I have to think the book will probably just reinforce the ideas that readers already have when they pick it up. Someone with a big ego and a small mind could easily think in the back of his mind, "Nice story, Jim... good thing I won't make the same mistakes you made. Because while you just thought you were the man, I actually AM the man, heh heh..." But then again this isn't much of a criticism. I mean, who can reach those types anyway?

The last half of the book reads almost like someone else wrote it, and has some very good points. I liked the way he took comments from a bunch of the "pros" (traders who have won big and kept their winnings) and juxtaposed their ideas, to show how successful traders' thought processes are sometimes totally different and often contradict each other.

It really hammers home the point that there are multiple paths up the profit mountain, and that discipline and defense are often the only truly common elements among a broad universe of strategies. I also thought the book made a really great point about odds--hat the reward to risk ratio on a trade has nothing to do with actual probability of success for that trade.

An entertaining book worth a weekend read.
