No such book existed, so Kendis wrote this book to help expectant mothers understand the wonderful process of pregnancy and delivery. Kendis graduated magna cum laude from Arizona State University with both her Bachelor s of Science degree and Master s Degree in Nursing. Kendis is a former world record holder in swimming and Olympic team member. She continues to enjoy sports and caring for patients today, while expanding her practice to include gynecology and women's health.

A Must For The Planning-To-Be-A-Mom

I purchased this book as a gift for a friend's daughter who had just learned she was expecting her first baby. When I received the book, I glanced through it and was immediately intrigued. Since over 50 years have passed since my own pregnancy I wound up reading the entire book! Oh! Would I have loved to have had all this information 50 years ago!! After giving the book to the daughter I received a phone call from her. She was ecstatic! She said she felt as though a cloud had been lifted from the ritual of child birth and, because of this book, she felt she was in control and could look forward to what was ahead of her and she could enjoy her 'adventure'. Thank you Kendis Moore Drake!

You must get this book of you-or someone you know- are pregnant!!!

I received Preparing for a Healthy Baby from my OBGYN when I was pregnant with my first child. I loved it so much I gave my only copy to my sister, who after carrying it with her for two pregnancies can't seem to find it. I was desperate to find a copy of the book again now that I am pregnant with my second. This book answered all the millions of questions I had and let me, and my husband, and my doctor get some sleep at night. It was easy to read and find the exact section I was looking for. I was so glad I found this on Amazon I bought four copies for my sister, cousins, and myself. You should not have a baby with out having this book at your fingertips.

Get this book- Guys can understand it!

I was the one that purchased this book for my wife after seeing all the novel-length books she brought home from the book store. Way too much reading! We have used Preparing for a Healthy Baby more than any other book we bought! It's so simple to understand and even a guy like me can get through it- and remember it! It has been a total lifesaver with our first pregnancy and I would recommend that all Dad's-to-be buy this book NOW! It's great to be able to quickly find out what is going on with Mommy and Baby with just the flip of a few pages! If you and your wife are expecting, you must get this book-maybe two copies, one for each of you!

About the Author
Blandine Calais-Germain lifelong involvement with dance, both as performer and teacher, eventually led to an interest in other physical disciplines, and then to more formal study of the complex and integrated movements of the body. From 1977 to 1980 the author studied physiotherapy at the French School of Orthopedics and Massage in Paris. In physiotherapy, body movements are analyzed both in terms of their neurophysiological and mechanical aspects, which allows for a better understanding of the actual mechanisms of movement. From her work with dance and physiotherapy, the author developed an innovative method for teaching the physical structures of anatomy in relation to movement. This method, the subject of her companion volumes Anatomy of Movement and Anatomy of Movement: Exercises, has been enthusiastically received in workshops that she presented for many years in France. Her two books have been translated and published throughout the world in many languages.

Well written, interesting and to the point

This book is well written and interesting.
The anatomy of the breath is explained in layman's terms and illustrated so that even a child could understand its basic concept.

The book chapters are:
1. Initial observations about the act of breathing
2. The skeleton's role in breathing
3. Respiratory organs
4. Respiratory muscles
5. The principal forces involved in breathing
6. Forces affecting respiratory volumes
7. Relationships among anatomical structures involved in breathing
8. Analysis of the principal types of breathing
9. Practice pages

Practice pages include exercises for lamaze, costal, diaphragmatic and abdominal breathing amongst others.

Strongly recommend it to people involved in body work teaching. Even if you already know this stuff, the book may help you find ways to explain it to your classes more simply. At least this is what it helped me for.

Thorough--It Touches All the Bases in Breathing

Perhaps both the strength and the limitation of this book is that passion for the subject is avoided. This doubtless helps avoid mistaking ideas about breathing for actual breathing. On the other hand, someone stumbling upon this book may under-appreciate the benefits of better breathing. Some may consider the discussion of smaller muscles and the smaller movements unimportant and diluting the interesting parts. However, if one wants to really change breathing then it is beneficial to know every part because in effective breathing, everything works in harmony. Changing my breathing has helped change my life, and it was this book, not my first book on the subject, which gave me clues on how to change my tendency to paradoxical breathing. (I had to find a way to stop my lower ribs from pulling up and flaring out in disproportion when my diaphragm pulled on them, so that the center of my diaphragm could instead pull itself down.) Together with a book that covers the motivations and goals of better breathing, say by Dennis Lewis, this book is well worth it the cost and the study.

Manga + Biology = Okay

The Manga Guide to Molecular Biology is basically designed to get your feet wet with Biology, by pulling you in with a slightly amusing manga. The problem is that it's Biology. Every single chapter, nay, every couple of pages you are bombarded with dozens of new terms. The manga part basically breaks down every so often, where they are forced to give up drawing the panels, and begin lecturing you in Biology.
As far as the product goes, it's alright. They have some pretty good analogies to help understand some of the topics, and the Manga part makes studying Biology a little bit more appealing. Unfortunately, as Biology is a complicated subject, you only learn some of the real basics, and the manga half is kind of crummy. You'll need at least another biology book (or two) to supplement this.

Perhaps buy this if someone you know needs some motivation to start studying Biology. Or you're bored.

Great Way to Engage Students in Study of Cells and Molecular Biology

I used this book in my high school introductory biology course. So far I've just used the Introduction and Chapter 1, but the students really liked it. Most of them like cartoons and comics, and they were excited to be able to read something that was visually stimulating.

Best Book on Self-Publishing that I have ever read.

There are a lot of great things I could say about this book. It's funny. It's informative. Rather than going through a bullet point list of its many merits, let me focus on the quality that I enjoyed most.

The best thing about this book, to me, is that it is devoted to teaching you how to think. You won't find screenshots teaching you how to format your files for the different online retailers or step-by-steps walking you through how to fill out a product description. The advice in this book will not only help you today, but years from now. I feel confident saying that because the focus is on how to approach situations. It will show you what type of thinking and the attitude you should as you try to build a career. They will teach you how to CREATE opportunities (they are serious about the 'no luck' part) for yourself.

In this book, Sean, Johnny and Dave advocate a systemic and repeatable approach that takes the guesswork out of being an author. The work ethic and can-do attitude that fills every page appeals to me so much. It's inspirational and motivational. Reading the book really makes you believe that it's possible to approach a writing career as a business person instead of that guy risking everything on a roll of the dice. You don't have to hope and pray that you get lucky. There is a line in the early part of the book that says: "Success comes from hard work and the accumulation of small numbers." That is such an awesome sentence, but more than that, it's an awesome philosophy.

Ultimately, that's what this book is about. It teaches you how to win a lot of small battles that have the cumulative effect of leading you to a life of victory. If you want to learn how to make it as a self-published author, do yourself a favor and buy this book. Read this book and keep it close by so you can read it again.

Long-winded, Self-Indulgent, Not for Romance Authors

I've read several books on self-publishing and I've picked up several tips from most all of them. The best tip I got from this one is to put links for your other books in the back of the book. Gee! Brilliant, right? Reading this book I felt like I was listening to a bunch of guys sitting around enjoying hearing themselves talk. Ad nauseum. Guys who are quite in love with themselves and super proud of the fact that they wouldn't get a real job even if their family needed them to (I feel so sorry for their wives.) They even spent a whole chapter on social media telling us why they aren't going to talk about social media. (because they don't know anything about it. Hello, that could have been said in a sentence, not a whole chapter.) This book desperately needed a good editor, preferably one outside their "fan club."

I am sure that fans of their podcast will LOVE this book, and that is their audience. But if you are looking to publish romance this is not the book for you. Why? One of the authors of the book on self-publishing romance tells us she makes 30% of her income from foreign markets while these guys say - foreign markets aren't worth your time. Don't bother. Really? In this global economy with the increase expected in eBook sales in India? Really? They continually talk about their slutty friend (their words, not mine) who writes erotica, but rather than offering us any gems one can use (besides FREE books, another brilliant tidbit), it comes off more like an episode of Beavis & Butthead develop a crush on the cheerleader next door with the bad reputation. These guys sound like they are very successful authors and I wish them all the best. I just won't be reading any more of their books. Not for me.

IMO, the best book on self-publishing.

I have a pretty popular blog on self-publishing, and I've written a couple of books on the topic myself - meaning I've read a lot on the topic and come across lots of different strategies and approaches to building a loyal audience. For my money, this is the best book on self-publishing out there.

It doesn't matter if you are a beginner, someone who has published a few books, or have a lot of experience, you will get a huge amount from this book, which is jam-packed with all sorts of useful information. It's like a How To on how to build a publishing empire. I had several lightbulb moments reading this book, and I know you will too.

These guys know what they are talking about, they have published millions of words, self-published to great success, sold a series to Amazon, and built a loyal readership that will follow them anywhere.

And they tell you how to do it too. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy.

EDIT: I received an ARC of this book, but without any agreement to review, let alone give any certain type of review. I receive tons of ARCs all the time and most never even get read, let alone reviewed...

TOGAF is the de facto standard for Architectural work.

TOGAF is the de facto standard for Architectural work. This is a good book. It covers vast area from a pragmatic perspective. I read this book on Safari Books Online.

Poorly written

This is poorly written book. The authors have done a bad job with both TOGAF and UML. I purchased it mainly to study how to use UML for creating TOGAF artifacts. I am disappointed to see how many non-UML notations have been used in the examples in the book. As an Enterprise Architect and Data Modeler I discourage people from using non-standard notations on the diagrams. The whole point for creating Enterprise Architecture is to bring standardization in the way an organization communicates about is present and future.

I recommend that these authors study UML and then revise this book thoroughly.
