"American Circumstance was hard to putdown; once you start reading, you are drawn into the story in such a way thatthe world disappears and time seems to stand still. The characters were socompelling that I couldn't look away, couldn't stop reading; even a bathroomtrip seemed like an incomprehensible interruption. I needed to know if Paige,Mollie, and Gwen would resolve their issues. The open nature of the endingforces the story to stay with you for a long time as you try to imagine wheretheir lives will end up. Leavy leaves so much unsaid because life is more aboutimpressions of people, sketches of what we choose to see, rather than perfectlydrawn archetypes. I could absolutely see this novel in a plethora of coursesaimed at understanding the complexities and limits of life in the modern world.It is contemporary literature at its best: accessible and incredibly well-written,with prose that welcomes a wide-ranging audience, short enough to consumequickly (attractive for students), but with enough depth to satisfy you. Captivating characters, fun stories, and a powerful commentary on contemporary society - Dr. Leavy has done it again!

Another incredibly fun and informative novel from Dr. Leavy! The combination of nuanced characters that pull at your heartstrings throughout the story, and a fast paced plot that almost jumps off the page and makes it hard to put down the book for even a small break create a fascinating journey through and reflection about contemporary economic differences in American society. Dr. Leavy manages to find a way to teach a lesson on economic privilege without ever coming off as a lecturer, but instead embedding important information within a captivating story that pulls at the reader's heart and mind at the same time. I would highly recommend this story to everyone, but I would especially suggest it for anyone seeking to make sense of contemporary economic issues in our society as well as the ways people are often far more than they seem on the surface. If you're looking for a well written and captivating story that also packs an intellectual and political punch, pick this up RIGHT NOW but be ready not to want to put it down until the end!

A recommended read for all!

American Circumstance is the embodiment of a book you can't put down. The struggles and triumphs of Paige, Mollie and Gwen sculpt a relatable plotline, with plenty of surprises along the way, in which every woman can relate to. Leavy gracefully encompasses a sociological perspective within this light-chick lit touching on the complexity of relationships with oneself and others. Definitely a recommendation for all- whether it be a light weekend read or thought-provoking discussion teaser, Leavy's latest work has something for everyone! I highly recommend it!

Loved it's guts!!

What a transformative read. I loved this book from the moment I picked it up. The characters are so fleshed out they became part of my life! The plot kept me so enrapt I did not want to put the book down. The author challenges the reader's perceptions on many aspects of life throughout the book. In fact, there were several points in the book where I realized that I had had preconceived notions about several of the characters...false ones. That realization opened my heart and completely changed the way I will view things forever. I would elaborate on this, but I wouldn't want to give anything away! A definite must read!
